چکیده

Aims: To look for correlations between expression of cell cycle regulatory proteins p34, p21, and p53 in node negative invasive ductal breast carcinoma, or between these proteins and clinicopathological parameters, and to assess their prognostic value. Methods: Immunohistochemistry using formalin fixed, paraffin wax embedded sections from 94 breast carcinomas. Adjacent benign epithelial breast tissue was available in 74 cases. Median follow up was 72 months. Results: Nuclear and cytoplasmic p34 expression was seen in 80 and 62 tumours, respectively; nuclear expression was seen in adjacent benign epithelium in 12 cases. p21 and p53 were positive in 48 and 21 tumours, respectively. High expression of p34 in neoplastic nuclei was associated with higher histological grade and p53 expression, but not with tumour size, steroid receptor status, patient age, menopausal status, recurrence, metastasis, disease free survival (DFS), or overall survival (OS). p34 in tumour cytoplasm was associated with p34 nuclear positivity, high tumour grade, and DFS in univariate but not multivariate analysis. In contrast, p34 expression in benign tissue independently predicted DFS and OS in univariate and multivariate analysis. Expression of p53 was associated with high tumour grade and negative steroid receptors, but not with recurrence, metastasis, DFS, or OS. p21 expression was not associated with the examined parameters. Conclusions: p34, p21, and p53 expression does not predict outcome in node negative breast carcinoma, although p34 expression in benign tissue is related to prognosis. The association between p34 and p53 implicates p53 in G2–M cell cycle checkpoint control, possibly via mediators unrelated to p21.

Immunohistochemical Evaluation of Human p53 Tumor Suppressor Protein Content in Ductal Carcinoma in Situ of the Breast

The focus of this study was to determine if early detection of mutant p53 accumulation may be an early indicator of tumor aggressiveness and transformation to invasive breast cancer. For this purpose, the p53 content of 100 human breast biopsies classified as ductal carcinoma (DCIS), was evaluated by immunohistochemical method. All specimens were microscopically classified into histologic types...

Study of the Expression of miR-4270 in Plasma of Patients with Breast Invasive Ductal Carcinoma

Detection of tumor-specific microRNAs (miRs) in the blood of cancer patients may provide a unique and valuable biomarker for diagnosis and prognosis. The aim of this study was to investigate whether plasma levels of microRNA-4270 could serve as a potential marker for breast invasive ductal carcinoma. A total of 40 breast cancer patients and 28 controls were recruited in this study. Total RNA wa...

Vascular Mimicry Expression in Invasive Ductal Carcinoma; A New Technique for Prospect of Aggressiveness

Background & Objective: In vascular (vasculogenic) mimicry (VM), tumoral cells mimic the endothelial cells and form the extracellular matrix-rich tubular networks. It has been proposed that VM is more extensive in aggressive tumors. This study was designed to investigate the rate of VM expression in the stromal cells of invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) and to find its relationsh...

P53 and Ki67 protein expression in ocular squamous cell carcinomas of dairy cattle

Role of the protein overexpression is very important in the pathogenesis, diagnosis and prognosis of neoplasia. Cases of overexpression of p53 and Ki67 proteins were investigated in 19 ocular squamous cell carcinomas (OSCC) in dairy cows. Microscopically, insix cases the tumors were carcinoma in situ (noninvasive carcinoma, G0), and in the remaining 13 cases the tumors were invasive carcinoma. ...

Correlation of ER, PR and HER-2/Neu with other Prognostic Factors in Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma of Breast

Background and Objectives: Breast cancer is the most common malignancy among women in the world. The aim of this study was to assess estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR) and HER-2/neu of infiltrating ductal carcinoma (IDC) with tumor size, histologic grade, lymph node metastasis and age. Methods: This study was carried out on 300 tissue blocks ofpatients with ID...
